Well, PSU had a tough season this year with all four losses coming to top 10 teams. If Anthony Morelli could have played more consistently at QB, this team would have been in the hunt for a national title. Unfortunately, for penn state fans, Morelli used this season as a learning experience. Now we can blame the young offensive line all day long, but towards the end of the season they showed marked improvement. Despite the improvement of the young offensive line, Morelli continued to disappoint. The offense sputtered thoughout the season, and it was the defense, as usual, that carried this team to a 9-4 record and a new years bowl game. Now, there is one game left and this is Morelli's chance to prove to everybody that he's the man that can lead this team to great things, but it's going to take a great performance (I'm talking about 400 yards passing and 3 TD's). This is the kind of game Penn State fans need to see out of Morelli If PSU plans to go into next season with hopes of a national championship. With a solid shut-down defense (Dan Conner, AJ Wallace, and Justing King), a returning offensive line, some of the fastest receivers in the NCAA (Derrick Williams, Deion Butler, Jordan Norwood, and Chris Bell), an extremelty gifted running back (Austin Scott), and the best fans in football, there is no reason Penn State shouldn't be talked about as a top contender next year. But, the success of this football team in 2007 will hinge on the arm of Anthony Morelli. Can he be the QB that leads this team to an undefeated season, or will he continue to disappoint in big games. A great performance on New Years day will go a long way to answering that question. If not, Morelli will have serious competition for the starting job, and the nittany lions might end up going through another transitional season in 2007.
