Running back Clinton Portis is expected to take part in Tuesday's practice, and his status for Thursday's preseason game against Jacksonville will be a "game-time decision," head coach Joe Gibbs said. Portis has missed the Redskins' first three preseason games as he continues to rehab from knee tendonitis. "He is going to take a lot more work this week," Gibbs said. "The medical team feels like that is the right thing to do at this point. We are going to up his workload. Then we'll see what happens when it comes down to game time." Portis will only have one day of full practice this week. After Tuesday's practice, the team will hold a walk-through practice on Wednesday, then go to the annual Welcome Home Luncheon before flying to Jacksonville for Thursday's contest. Since the opening days of training camp, Portis has tried to stay in shape with cardio work, such as riding stationary bikes daily. Gibbs admitted it might take Portis some time to get in football shape.
